Sundus is an amazing Iraqi home cook, whose recipes tell so many stories of family, history and togetherness. As the oldest of seven kids, Sundus helped her mother to bring up her siblings while her father was conscripted to war. Sundus and her husband originally settled in Brisbane, then reunited with her parents in Melbourne a year later. As Christians in Mosul, they had a hard but relatively protected life under Saddam Hussein. After the US invasion and later ISIS occupation, life was perilous. They managed to escape to Jordan and seek refugee visas at the Australian consulate. Now with a permanent visa, language qualifications and even having learned to drive, Sundus is safe to follow her passions. She shares with us incredible memories through dishes passed down through the generations of her family.
