Verena, Cartagena Colombia

Mama Verena was born in Cartagena, a colourful city on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, where the people are friendly and fun. She fondly recalls eating Arepas with friends in the warm streets of her hometown, making plans to ‘take bites out of the whole world!’ At age 52, Verena was suddenly widowed and found herself moving to Australia to live with her two beautiful daughters. Without speaking a word of English Verena set to work, studying and dreaming about her new beginning. With her future in mind, Mama envisions a life on the road in her food truck bringing bite-sized pieces of Colombia to everyone around Australia! For Verena, cooking for others has allowed her to share love and traditions once more, dipping into her roots. Her dishes are an ode to her late husband, a collection of his favourite recipes that hold a special place in her heart.
