WROUD, Al-Hasakah, Syria

“My hero ingredients are orange blossom and cardamom!"

Wroud is from a small city called Al-Hasakah in Syria, where for generations the wheat fields provided food and income for her family. Wroud remembers the tradition of making Salika – a porridge made of wheat grains. Community members both young and old would gather to keep the pot stirring and fire burning. Today her philosophy towards cooking is informed by this communal tradition. As the youngest of three sisters, Wroud was always impatient to learn the art of cooking. Once given the opportunity to learn, she quickly became renowned for her incredible home cooking. Wroud looks forward to teaching students about the best way to use garlic and cumin! Ever industrious Wroud bakes and decorates incredible cakes and sweets here in Australia and has completed a Certificate III in Patisserie. She finds joy and expression through her recipes, cooking and cultivating impeccable style in whatever she attempts.
